Giving Art for the Holidays

Art makes a valuable addition to any home or workplace because it stimulates creativity and contemplation, makes the space more inviting and livable, and serves as a conversation piece. As a gift, a work of art is original; it shows careful thought in choosing something unique. And buying art as a holiday gift supports artists and contributes to your local economy, because independent artists are small business owners.

This holiday weekend, you can support creative entrepreneurs as part of Small Business Saturday! Here are our recommendations for where to shop:

  • Shop Small Art Fair, November 25, Twin Rivers Council for the Arts, Mankato
15 featured artists will be selling original paintings, prints, jewelry, glass work, and more, plus live artwork demonstrations and kid-friendly craft activities.
  • GSR Fine Art Festival, November 25 and 26, Verizon Center, Mankato
More than 45 artists and craftspeople will sell their work at this event that also includes live music and a blacksmithing demonstration.
  • Small Business Saturday at LC Design, November 25, Pipestone
Owner and designer Linsey Prunty shared her story with us this year about being a young creative entrepreneur in a small rural town. This holiday season, shop her collection of handmade home decor and gifts!
  • Small Business Saturday at Northrup King, November 25, Minneapolis
Explore four floors of art and crafts in this Northeast Minneapolis warehouse building, home to hundreds of small businesses!
  • Small Business Saturday at New Rules, November 25, Minneapolis
Support local entrepreneurs, including fashion designers and multimedia artists, with this event at a North Minneapolis coworking and creative space.
  • SooVAC Artist Holiday Shop, December 1-24, Soo Visual Arts Center, Minneapolis
Though it doesn't open until next weekend, don't forget this annual artists' holiday shop, which features more than 50 artists selling jewelry, sculpture, illustration, and more.

If you give or receive original art this year, share a photo and tag @connectthegrey on Twitter or Instagram! We'll continue celebrating creativity and supporting artists throughout the season and year-round.
